Italy’s magical Cinque Terre

cinque-terre-261782_1280Meaning literally ‘five lands’ – Cinque Terre is the name given to an expanse of Italy’s Ligurian coast south of Genova, where five separate yet equally mesmerizing fishing villages sit on the cliff’s edge. The villages are Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

Here, brightly-coloured houses cling perilously to the coastline in an area which was only linked to the outside world by a railway in the late 19th century. Cinque Terra with its ancient terraced vinyards has been a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Read More…
